Safe solutions for oxygen applications

GEMÜ is expanding its product range for oxygen applications, offering globe and control valves for applications with gaseous oxygen in addition to its multitude of diaphragm valves with immediate effect. For safe plant operation, GEMÜ is placing particular emphasis on the selection of suitable materials for all media-wetted components. In the case of oxygen applications, this primarily concerns auxiliary and seal materials. This is why, for example, the spindle seals of all GEMÜ globe valves that are suitable for applications with gaseous oxygen are manufactured from PTFE, as the material is difficult to ignite.

Oxygen is considered a critical working medium, since many materials burn intensely and quickly with compressed or pure oxygen. For this reason, special care must be taken for areas of application in which gaseous oxygen is used. In Germany, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM – Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) tests and evaluates whether certain materials are suitable for use with the critical medium.

GEMÜ offers a wide range of valves for oxygen applications. These include, among others, the GEMÜ 550 globe valves, which feature a uniform stainless steel design; the GEMÜ 554 type, which is distinguished by its particularly compact design; and the motorized GEMÜ 549 eSyDrive type. All these valves use auxiliary and seal materials that have been deemed suitable for use with gaseous oxygen by the BAM. The GEMÜ 601 diaphragm valves for small nominal sizes, the GEMÜ 650 BioStar for small to larger nominal sizes and the GEMÜ 660 filling valve are also type-tested and certified by the BAM.

Process pump product range Orlita Evolution

ProMinent is focusing on technical details at this year’s Pumps & Valves trade fair in Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany. The fair runs between 20 and 21 February 2019 and ProMinent can be found on Stand R 51-6 in Hall 6. Using a sectional model of the Orlita Evolution EF2a, the Heidelberg-based manufacturer is demonstrating all the design features, which ensure maximum process reliability and flexibility.

All Evolution variants with stainless steel and plastic metering units and those with piston dosing heads are produced from modules. They can be flexibly designed as single and multiple pump versions. Up to four metering units, with the same or different pump capacities, can be combined in multiple pump systems. What makes them so special is the fact that the power ends can be arranged in any position – vertical or horizontal. For maximum flexibility, the customer can choose seven different gear reductions. The powerful plunger metering pumps Orlita Evolution EP1a and EP2a make precise pump capacities possible even at very high pressure levels and temperatures of up to +200 °C.

Maximum safety

As extremely robust hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps, the Orlita Evolution Model meets the most exacting safety requirements. Features which make the pumps stand out include their PTFE multi-layer diaphragm with integral diaphragm rupture warning system and diaphragm position control. All pumps are designed to comply with API 675. With a huge variety of power end variants, the pumps can also be used in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas at risk from explosion with ATEX certification.

Solutions for digital fluid management

The membrane electrolysis process improved by ProMinent produces the highly effective disinfectant Dulcolyt 400 on site cost effectively. The special thing about this: DULCO®Lyse produces less than 0.01 ppm of chlorate for one dose of 1 ppm FAC (Free Available Chlorine). This is a significantly lower chlorate content compared to conventional procedures.

Further benefit: Minimal chloride levels. Conventional technologies produce more than 20 times as much chloride. Machine parts and equipment are not attacked by the minimal chloride concentration and corrosion is reliably avoided.

Products with Extended Connectivity

Whether solenoid- or motor pumps – the portfolio of the manufacturer from Heidelberg has undergone numerous innovations and continued developments. For example, new motor driven diaphragm pumps Sigma X as well as solenoid driven diaphragm metering pumps gamma/ XL come with a range of features that are designed to allow digital fluid management. As part of a linked solution, these pumps allows you to monitor, analyse, and optimise metering processes with ease.

Chemical-free disinfection in hygienic design

New UV systems Dulcodes LP F & B disinfect the product water in the beverage and food industry without chemicals. The DVGW-certified system meets the hygienic requirements for cleaning when installed (CIP or Cleaning in Place). Electropolished surfaces with a surface roughness of less than RA= 0.8 microns prevent adhesion of the flow-through media.

Flexible and compact

Breakdown of chloramines without chemicals

The UV system Dulcodes MP uses short-wave UV radiation to minimise the undesirable by-products of swimming pool water (chloramines). The system is suitable for a flow of up to 569 m3/h. Compared to its predecessor, it has more functions, works almost maintenance-free and is significantly more compact. The UV system can be easily integrated into existing pipework and, due to its analogue and digital interfaces, it can be easily integrated into higher-level control technology.

Flexible and space-saving

Other new products include the new, compact dosing system DULCODOS® universal mini and the compact, high-performance ozone system OZONFILT® OZVb. Depending on the application, the dosing system is equipped with the optimum pump. The OZVb plant ensures reliable ozone production with ozone concentrations of up to 20 g / Nm3.

ProMinent at ACHEMA 2018: Hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps

At ACHEMA 2018 in Hall 8 at stand J94 ProMinent is showcasing its Hydraulic diaphragm pumps type Hydro. The tried-and-tested range of process pumps from ProMinent have moved things up a level in terms of performance and versatility.

The Hydro/ 4 model now offers delivery capacity of 200 l/h at 40 bar as a single-head pump and is capable of delivery capacities of up to 400 l/h at 40 bar as a twin-head pump.

With the types Hydro 2, Hydro 3 and Hydro 4, ProMinent offers an end-to-end product range with stroke lengths of 15 mm or 20 mm, covering outputs from 3 to 1,450 l/h at 100 to 7 bar. The application range of the Hydro 4 has been increased from 25 to 40 bar. The Hydro pumps deliver stable metering performance up to 1,400 l/h with a high repeat accuracy of ±1 %. All pump types are equipped as standard with a fixed-setting pressure relief valve that is integrated in the hydraulics and a multi-layer diaphragm with a diaphragm rupture warning system.

Maximum flexibility

The modular design of the Hydro range facilitates a high degree of flexibility. The pumps can be used as single-head and twin-head versions. If you require a multi-pump system, the pumps can also be equipped with up to four metering units. Each of the metering units can be operated with different delivery capacities here. A total of five gear reductions are available for the Hydro pumps. The pumps are also available for use in ATEX Zones 1 and 2. All models of the Hydro product range are designed in accordance with API 675.

Efficient process pumps type hydro enhances the process- and product quality due to reliable metering. Simultaneous the requirements of the chemical industry and protection of environment will be fulfilled. High availability and safety of process during metering of combustive, toxic, solids containing and viscous fluids will be ensured.

ProMinent at ACHEMA 2018: Orlita® Evolution range of process pumps

At this year’s ACHEMA in Frankfurt, June 11 to 15, 2018, ProMinent will present the extended product range of the Orlita® Evolution series at its stand J94 in hall 8. The Evolution 1 to 4 ranges, which were previously only available with a stainless steel metering unit, can now also be equipped with metering units made of PVC and PVDF.

This extends the potential applications of the pumps, while at the same time reducing costs – particularly for applications with aggressive media. In addition to this, ProMinent added the rugged and precise EP1 and EP2 piston metering pumps to their line of hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps.

All Evolution versions with stainless steel and plastic metering unit, as well as those with a piston dispensing head, have a modular structure. They can be flexibly designed as single-pump or multi-pump versions. With multi-pump systems, up to four metering units can be combined, including units with different delivery capacities. The special feature is the position-independent arrangement of the drives – with both vertical and horizontal installation possible. Seven freely selectable and different gear reductions provide maximum flexibility. The high-performance plunger metering pumps Orlita® Evolution EP1 and EP2 enables precise pump capacities even at maximum pressure and temperatures of up to + 200 °C.

Greater profitability

A key advantage of the new plastic metering units made of PVC and PVDF is their high resistance to aggressive chemicals. When equipped with these, the Orlita® Evolution is an affordable alternative to pumps with dispensing heads made of resistant materials, such as Hastelloy. Until now, these highly corrosion-resistant nickel alloys needed a high molybdenum content, as they are also resistant to aggressive media.

Ultimate safety

As extremely robust hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps, the Orlita® Evolution models meet the strictest safety requirements. Among other things, they excel through their PTFE multi-layer safety diaphragm with integrated diaphragm rupture warning/indicator, as well as their diaphragm position control. All pumps are designed in accordance with API 675. With a large variety of drive versions, use in Ex Zone 1 and Zone 2 is even permitted with ATEX approval.

At this year’s ACHEMA, intelligent solutions for digital fluid management play the leading role at the ProMinent stand J94 in Hall 8. The core topic “Extended Connectivity” covers numerous, further developed products and solutions.

Optimised systems accommodate Process 4.0: they minimise the consumption of raw materials used, operating errors, and down times. At the same time, the customer service is improved through networking, transparency, and automation, and the timely delivery, maintenance, and repairs on site are ensured.

Reliable even at high operating pressures

The GEMÜ 790 ball valve series stands out thanks to its compact yet robust design. At the same time, it is suitable for use up to a pressure rating of PN125.

Ball valves can be used in a wide variety of applications in industrial processes, and in water supply and water treatment systems in particular. One of the most efficient filtration procedures in water treatment is reverse osmosis. During this procedure, the unclean water is pressed through a semi-permeable diaphragm at high pressure. This filters unwanted substances out of the water. The differing electrolyte loads of the raw water fundamentally determine the treatment process with regard to the water quality that must be achieved. The higher the concentration of electrolytes, the higher the pressure must be in the system. Thus, the operating pressure range for ball valves in industrial waste water treatment, for example, is 60 to 70 bar; by contrast, it is between 60 to 80 bar for sea water. A ball valve which is installed in the raw water supply or clean water drain outlet must be able to sustain these demanding operating parameters in order to ensure a safe process sequence.

High operational safety due to low maintenance engineering

The highly polished and precisely manufactured GEMÜ 790 series ball fits snugly and air-tightly into the internal seal contour. A discharge slit in the seal ensures pressure relief in the valve flow. This not only reduces the seat wear but also lowers the actuating torque required to rotate the ball. This enables both cost-effective and energy-efficient system operation. The additional pressure relief hole in the ball enables pressure compensation, preventing a potential failure due to an internal build-up of pressure. Blow-out protection in the shaft ensures maximum operational safety. The antistatic device provides a permanently conductive connection between the ball and the shaft. A tongue-and-groove-style connection between the shaft and the valve body enables full earthing of the ball valve during installation in the system. This also ensures that it is safe for use in ATEX areas.

The stainless steel ball valves of the GEMÜ 790 series are designed to enable quick and easy servicing of internal wearing parts at all times. The generous valve neck extension has a top flange in accordance with EN ISO 5211. This standardized interface enables the user to fit the ball valve with various different actuators. The solid design of the body with an additional enclosed body seal enables use at pressures up to 137 bar as well as in vacuum applications. Depending on customer requirements, the ball valves are available with full or with reduced through flow.

Jenoptik Showcasing Numerous New Products at Photonics West

Following a surge in demand over the past two years, Jenoptik’s Optical Systems division will cater especially to laser material processing market with a host of new and improved products in 2018.

Four new completely fused silica F-Theta objective lenses, a fused silica beam expander for high-power laser applications, and three new standard F-Theta lenses will be ready to go into production from January 2018.

The new designs boast improved VIS performance for visual monitoring of the manufacturing process in a range of 1030 to 1080 nanometers. In the 500 –680 nanometer range, lens transmission measures over 85 percent and enables direct process monitoring through a simple combination of image sensor and filter.

With a coating for 900 to 1100 nanometers instead of the previous 1030 to 1080 nanometers, the new SilverlineTM lenses for the NIR range are especially suitable for the broader spectra that are typical of diode lasers.

Tim Baldsiefen, Head of Optical Design at Jenoptik Optical Systems is convinced that Jenoptik’s significantly expanded portfolio will meet the growing market requirements. "We now have ideal lenses for the most common applications and these lenses are precisely tailored to the specific process characteristics in production. This enables our customers to respond flexibly to production changes."

New motorized beam expander simplifies production steps in laser material processing

The motorized beam expander 1x-8x marks a move by Jenoptik to adapt its portfolio to the market requirements of industry and to focus mainly on the critical parameters of time, quality, and ease of handling.

The new beam expander is offered for wavelengths of 355 or 1030–1080 nanometers. The expansion can be continuously adjusted from 1x to 8x using software commands. In the manufacturing process, changing the expansion of the beam changes its spot size on the workpiece.

The beam can be adjusted to the optimum spot size during the ongoing manufacturing process, resulting in significantly higher quality and productivity for the user. The divergence of the laser beam can be precisely adjusted to achieve tolerance compensation in the entire system, for example to compensate for thermal effects. Controlling the divergence also makes it possible to change the position of the working plane, for instance for 3D processing. Both features – automatic magnification and focusing – help to reduce setup times.

Thanks to an innovative frame concept the construction of the beam expanders is extremely compact and robust. The lenses do not rotate during focusing or magnification but are moved within a linear guide, resulting in excellent beam stability and constantly high quality.

The optical system is designed in such a way that a diffraction-limited image quality is achieved across the entire expansion range. The optimized coatings ensure the highest transmission and minimal thermal effects in wavelength ranges of 355 and 1030–1080 nanometers.

The motorized beam expander is a perfect match for Jenoptik’s F-theta lenses and can be used in a large number of beam guidance systems. It is used in the production of microstructures and for the marking and labeling of different materials. It can be easily integrated into any system using the appropriate software interfaces.

New hyperspectral lens with adjustable iris diaphragm to improve the performance of SWIR and hyperspectral cameras

The Jenoptik 25 mm f/2, 400–1700 nm hyperspectral lens maximizes the performance of many popular SWIR (shortwave infrared) and hyperspectral cameras. A broad spectral range of 400–1700 nanometers combined with an adjustable diaphragm makes the new lens very versatile.

The standard product lens will enhance image processing across medicine, industrial inspection, surveillance, and law enforcement applications.

Jenoptik develops enhanced Diffractive Optical Elements (DOEs)

Diaphragm seal systems with process transmitters: Replacement service optimises the benefit

Operators of diaphragm seal systems with mounted process transmitters can now take advantage of a replacement service. WIKA has put together a service package with which the long-term benefit and the overall costs of such a measuring assembly can be optimised.

Diaphragm seal systems often operate under extreme conditions. In the event of a failure of the system, however, in many cases it is enough to replace only the mounted diaphragm seal and to continue using the process transmitter. As part of the replacement service, WIKA takes the measuring system apart, checks and certifies the functionality of the process transmitter and replaces the mounted diaphragm seal with an equivalent one. Then a calibration of the new diaphragm seal system is made. If necessary, the mounting and the system fill fluid will be optimised and also new material test certificates issued.

With the replacement service, the process transmitter can be fully utilised over its entire service life. Preventive exchange of the diaphragm seal at planned shut-downs further reduces plant downtime. In order to offer this new service worldwide, and as close to customers as possible, WIKA will install service centres in the respective subsidiaries.
