Verpackungscodierung – Ausbau einer Prüfstrecke

Ab Februar 2019 wird laut EU-Verordnung 2016/161 von Pharmaverpackungen eine eindeutige Identifizierung jeder einzelnen Schachtel zur Rückverfolgung der Prozesse und zur Sicherheit gegen Produktfälschung bindend. Die Identifizierung der Faltschachteln erfolgt über einen aufgebrachten 2D-Barcode, einem DataMatrix-Code. Die PTS hat hierfür gemeinsam mit Herstellern von Faltschachteln für die Pharmazie und Arzneimittelherstellern zwei anerkannte Prüfmethoden entwickelt. DataMatrix-Codes können laut der EU-Verordnung mittels Thermo-Inkjet-Druck direkt auf die Verpackung oder ein Etikett gedruckt (PTS-Methode PTS-DF-103/2017) oder mittels Laserablation erstellt werden (PTS-Methode PTS-DF-105/2017). In einem ausführlichen Prüfbericht erhalten die Kunden folgende Informationen:

  • Ergebnis der Druckverifizierung mittels Verifier nach ISO/IEC 15415
  • Ermittlung der exakten Trocknungsgeschwindigkeit in sec
  • Vergrößerte Aufnahmen der gedruckten Datamatrix-Codes
  • Informationen zur möglichen Variation der Druckauflösung
  • Besonderheiten des Drucks

Diese Prüfmethode ermöglicht die Bewertung von GS1-DataMatrix-Codes gemäß ISO/IEC 15415. Es ist damit möglich, die Bedruckbarkeit der Faltschachteln bzw. Faltschachtelkartons mit einer schwarzen TIJ-Tinte zu zertifizieren. Die Zertifikate werden in Abstimmung mit der Forschungsgemeinschaft Faltschachtel für die Pharmaindustrie FFPI (FFPI-SP-08/16 Bulletin „Spezifikation Pharmakarton“) ausgestellt und die zugrunde liegenden Testverfahren weiterentwickelt. Mit dem Zertifikat über die Prüfungen entsteht eine Rechtssicherheit für die Pharmaverpackung nach der Verordnung 2016/161. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen OEMs (Videojet, Domino, REA) können an der PTS unterschiedliche Tinten und Drucksysteme zur Prüfung verwendet werden. Über die Qualifizierung der Substrate für die Verpackungskennzeichnung wurde bereits in den PTS-News 02/2017 detailliert berichtet.

Die Verpackungscodierung wird neben dem Bereich Pharmafaltschachteln in Zukunft auch in den Bereichen Medizintechnik, Medizinverpackungen, Lebensmittel sowie Agrarchemie und Kosmetik an Bedeutung gewinnen. In ersten Kundenprojekten wurden hier bereits Prüfungen durchgeführt sowie in Forschungsprojekten zukünftige Trends in der Codierung wissenschaftlich bearbeitet.

Neben dem Ausbau der Prüfstrecke und Forschungsprojekten bieten die PTS Experten zudem einen Workshop „Verpackungscodierung in der Praxis“ als intensive Schulung zu diesem Thema an. In diesem Rahmen wird der aktuelle Stand der Umsetzung und der bevorstehenden Untersuchungen zur Serialisierung vorgestellt. Anhand von Praxisbeispielen werden die Forderungen der Verordnung und Lösungsansätze aufgezeigt, wobei die Teilnehmer gerne eigene Muster zur Vermessung mitbringen können, um möglichst anwendungsnah und interaktiv in die Thematik einzusteigen. Diese Praxisnähe wird zudem durch bereitstehende Druckköpfe mit 30 Tinten, drei Lasersystemen und Thermotransferdrucker unterstützt.

EPSON’S FC-12D kHz crystal unit with ultra-low-profile

Epson Europe Electronics GmbH ("Epson") presents the FC-12D kHz crystal unit with ultra-low-profile at only 0.35 mm maximum height, enabling height critical applications such as smart cards to meet the ISO 7810 size standard. Epson’s photolithographic processing technology enables this subminiature size (2.05 x 1.25 x 0.35 mm3) and simultaneously delivers best-in-class ESR (equivalent series resistance) of 75 kΩ max, vital for fast startup and low power.

Smart cards must be low power because they operate from a small battery. For accuracy at low power, FC-12D is designed to achieve low sensitivity to load changes. In addition, smart cards are subject to bending and ESD stress. For strain resistance, Epson’s FC-12D features a ceramic package and a patented 3-point crystal mount. For ESD shielding, FC-12D uses a 4-pin layout with a GND pin connected to a Faraday shield.

FC-12D is available at 32.768 kHz with frequency tolerance from ±10 ppm to ±20 ppm @ 25 °C and load capacitance from 6 pF to 15 pF.

Epson shipping samples of a 32-bit microcontroller with dedicated sound hardware

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") has begun shipping samples of the S1C31D50, a 32-bit microcontroller with dedicated sound hardware for 2-channel sound. Epson plans to produce 200,000 units per month of each model.

Sound is becoming an increasingly popular feature in home electronics, remote controllers for home appliances, industrial devices, health and fitness equipment with guidance systems, and alarms in office buildings, shopping complexes, and factories. This MCU is ideal for all these applications. An ARM® Cortex®-M0+ processor integrated with a dedicated HW Processor provides 2-channel sound on a single MCU chip. The use of two channels enables music and voice to be played simultaneously, lending audio guidance greater elegance and warmth. Voice speed can also be flexibly adjusted.

The MCU’s dedicated HW Processor sound hardware boasts a pair of special features. First, the HW Processor plays sound without requiring CPU resources, so CPU resources can be allocated to other processes even during sound playback. The use of a high-compression algorithm (16 kbps @ 16 kHz) shrinks the size of sound data memory, making it possible to provide a large amount of sound data and sound data in multiple languages. Epson also offers a PC tool that provides a development environment for easily creating sound data in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean without studio recording. 
Second, the MPU also has a self-memory check function that can detect failures in built-in RAM, built-in Flash, and external SPI-Flash memories without using CPU resources.

Epson RA890 Automotive DTCXO RTC

esigned for precision time keeping, Epson’s RA8900 Automotive DTCXO Real-Time Clock (RTC) uses Digitally Temperature-Compensated Crystal Oscillator (DTCXO) technology to achieve ±3.4 ppm at the temperature range of -40 to +85 °C (9 s/mo.).

Despite the high accuracy, Epson’s RA8900 includes an integrated crystal and features low power of 0.7 μA (typ) backup current.

The programmable oscillators with spread-spectrum capability have extended temperature range and high-stability

European Digital Press Award for digital print finishing machine from Leonhard Kurz

Leonhard Kurz has won a 2018 European Digital Press Award in the “Best enhancement solution” category. Kurz received the award for its DM-Liner UV-Ink digital print finishing machine, which can transfer metallized decorative finishes onto paper and plastic substrates by means of inkjet technology. The prize was presented by the European Digital Press Association during the awards ceremony on May 16 at FESPA in Berlin.

The DM-Liner UV-Ink is the second digital metal transfer machine from Kurz to receive the EDP Award, the company having already received an award in 2015 for its toner-based DM-Liner. “We are proud of this outstanding recognition of our digital finishing technology,” says Stefanie Schmidt, Product Manager at Kurz. “We have developed various digital finishing systems that cater for the different equipment and order structure of print shops. These product offerings have been very well received by the international printing market. We are delighted that the EDP Awards jury was impressed by our concept.”

The DM-Liner UV-Ink is a transfer unit that can be combined with digital or offset color printing, and the print enhancement can be performed up- or downstream of the color printing. By first applying the metallization and then overprinting, arbitrary metallic colors can be produced. Upmarket metallized late stage customization can be achieved by performing the transfer after color printing. The DM-Liner with inkjet technology is available both for sheet-fed and narrow web printing. The DM-Liner UV-Ink designed for web-fed printing is available as a stand-alone machine that can be employed regardless of the printing process. A second version can be integrated directly into the digital printing system, and a third can be attached to web-fed flexographic printing machines as a retrofit module.

Die Umstellung von der Chargenkennzeichnung zur Kennzeichnung auf Produktebene (Einzelverpackung) ist laut der EU-Verordnung 2016/161 zur Umsetzung der Fälschungsschutzrichtlinie 2011/62/EU bis zum 9. Februar 2019 für die Arzneimittelhersteller bindend und wird diese vor neue Herausforderungen stellen.
