ZSF – Fully clamped

The hydromechanical spring-loaded cylinders of the ZSF series from JAKOB Antriebstechnik offer robust and reliable clamping elements. These spring-loaded systems can be used wherever displaceable or movable machine parts must be temporarily clamped or locked. Other applications can be found in jig construction and for workpiece or tool clamping.

The spring-loaded systems interact mechanically-hydraulically. The clamping force is applied mechanically by a prestressed plate spring package. The hydraulics are only needed for the release stroke of the elements, whereby the tie rod or pressure pin is released. This system ensures a high level of operational safety, since the clamping force is always maintained at full height, regardless of oil pressure or leakage losses. In the operation the pressure or tension piston is alternately acted upon by the plate spring package or the hydraulic pressure. This means that the spring pack is compressed with increasing oil pressure, the spring force increases. At set pressure, the corresponding nominal clamping force is achieved as the reaction force of the plate spring package. To release the pressure or tension piston, a higher hydraulic pressure is required, which is proportional to the release stroke up to a maximum value. This means that the setting pressure is required only for the initial installation for exact force adjustment. In the actual operating cycle, the cylinders are driven either without pressure or with release pressure. For spring-loaded cylinders, a mandrel or tie rod is screwed into the threaded hole of the tensioning piston and secured (on request, in one piece or with special thread). Operation requires a hydraulic unit that should be equipped with a pressure gauge, a pressure relief valve, a switching solenoid valve and a pressure switching device.

The hydromechanical spring-loaded systems can score with many advantages. Due to the short operating times of the hydraulic unit, this system offers advantages in terms of economy. The acquisition costs are low, the reliability is increased, the application areas are diverse and the operation is very simple.

Process pump product range Orlita Evolution

ProMinent is focusing on technical details at this year’s Pumps & Valves trade fair in Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany. The fair runs between 20 and 21 February 2019 and ProMinent can be found on Stand R 51-6 in Hall 6. Using a sectional model of the Orlita Evolution EF2a, the Heidelberg-based manufacturer is demonstrating all the design features, which ensure maximum process reliability and flexibility.

All Evolution variants with stainless steel and plastic metering units and those with piston dosing heads are produced from modules. They can be flexibly designed as single and multiple pump versions. Up to four metering units, with the same or different pump capacities, can be combined in multiple pump systems. What makes them so special is the fact that the power ends can be arranged in any position – vertical or horizontal. For maximum flexibility, the customer can choose seven different gear reductions. The powerful plunger metering pumps Orlita Evolution EP1a and EP2a make precise pump capacities possible even at very high pressure levels and temperatures of up to +200 °C.

Maximum safety

As extremely robust hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps, the Orlita Evolution Model meets the most exacting safety requirements. Features which make the pumps stand out include their PTFE multi-layer diaphragm with integral diaphragm rupture warning system and diaphragm position control. All pumps are designed to comply with API 675. With a huge variety of power end variants, the pumps can also be used in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas at risk from explosion with ATEX certification.

ProMinent at ACHEMA 2018: Orlita® Evolution range of process pumps

At this year’s ACHEMA in Frankfurt, June 11 to 15, 2018, ProMinent will present the extended product range of the Orlita® Evolution series at its stand J94 in hall 8. The Evolution 1 to 4 ranges, which were previously only available with a stainless steel metering unit, can now also be equipped with metering units made of PVC and PVDF.

This extends the potential applications of the pumps, while at the same time reducing costs – particularly for applications with aggressive media. In addition to this, ProMinent added the rugged and precise EP1 and EP2 piston metering pumps to their line of hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps.

All Evolution versions with stainless steel and plastic metering unit, as well as those with a piston dispensing head, have a modular structure. They can be flexibly designed as single-pump or multi-pump versions. With multi-pump systems, up to four metering units can be combined, including units with different delivery capacities. The special feature is the position-independent arrangement of the drives – with both vertical and horizontal installation possible. Seven freely selectable and different gear reductions provide maximum flexibility. The high-performance plunger metering pumps Orlita® Evolution EP1 and EP2 enables precise pump capacities even at maximum pressure and temperatures of up to + 200 °C.

Greater profitability

A key advantage of the new plastic metering units made of PVC and PVDF is their high resistance to aggressive chemicals. When equipped with these, the Orlita® Evolution is an affordable alternative to pumps with dispensing heads made of resistant materials, such as Hastelloy. Until now, these highly corrosion-resistant nickel alloys needed a high molybdenum content, as they are also resistant to aggressive media.

Ultimate safety

As extremely robust hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps, the Orlita® Evolution models meet the strictest safety requirements. Among other things, they excel through their PTFE multi-layer safety diaphragm with integrated diaphragm rupture warning/indicator, as well as their diaphragm position control. All pumps are designed in accordance with API 675. With a large variety of drive versions, use in Ex Zone 1 and Zone 2 is even permitted with ATEX approval.
