Smoke switch control units in hold-open systems must always function flawlessly, so that doors close reliably in the event of fire. With the new RSZ 7 intelligent smoke switch control unit with telescope function, GEZE demonstrates that this is possible, even if the structural conditions of the lintel are unfavourable.

The solution for ’space problems‘

The new flexible solution is ideal for lintels with too little room above the smoke chamber for the unobstructed supply of air or smoke. The smoke detector is telescopically extendible and retractable, and can bridge overhangs of 30 millimetres.

With the new RSZ7 smoke switch control unit, the

  • specified minimum distance between the smoke switch control unit and the lintel is always guaranteed
  • smoke is always accurately detected

Easy connection

The smoke switch control unit is connected to the 230 V power grid by means of an integrated power supply.

  • 24 V supply voltage to the connected GEZE hold-open device (hold-open magnet on the wall and magnetic counter plate)
  • installation above the active leaf on the vertical wall for early detection of fire and smoke

Reliable safety – long life span

In the event of an alarm, the voltage supply to the hold-open devices is interrupted and the doors close immediately. Connection of two additional ceiling-mounted detectors – also cable-free – via the new wireless extension FA GC 170 is possible depending on requirements.

Construction work in a listed building? Plus the need to lay cables for the fire protection solution? This is now much easier and was successfully achieved as part of the renovation and modernisation of the listed building belonging to the metal industry Dortmund business association: thanks to FA GC 170, our unique and award-winning wireless extension for hold-open systems.

Modern late nineteenth century style

What happens in this brick building ‚from the good old days‘ today is highly topical, involving key and current issues in our modern world of work. The building, built in 1894 during the industrial revolution and featuring an ornate façade, an arched entrance with a bay window above it, and high-ceilinged rooms, became the first ‚industrialist’s villa‘ in the affluent Prinz-Friedrich-Karl-Strasse district which was established in around 1900. Today, this city palace is a listed building.

Liveable: more comfortable and much safer

However, the headquarters of the business association failed to meet the modern requirements in terms of technology and usage. A renovation and modernisation project incorporated a fresh interior with about 20 rooms into the three-storey office block. GEZE door technology makes it even more ‚liveable‘, as it offers users and visitors modern door comfort and optimal safety with the required fire protection.

"The installation of the fire protection doors could not have been simpler or quicker. These doors were also supposed to be barrier-free, and can be kept open as required. The GEZE wireless extension systems, which were required for the high-ceilinged rooms, meant no walls had to be knocked-through for cables. We were able to leave the structure of the listed building intact, use a secure and approved system, and save effort and costs," explains Gerhard Kämper. For several years, he has been the building’s on-site technician and co-organiser of the renovation.

Complete renovation: new fire protection concept

Because the building was to be used for a different purpose, the renovation required a new fire protection concept. To create the necessary barrier-free access and maintain an open atmosphere, the new fire doors had to be kept open during daytime operation – but of course close automatically in an emergency. Hold-open systems enable this. They hold the doors open until they are either closed manually or – in the event of a fire – safely closed by activating the smoke switch.

Architectural challenges

The problem was how to meet the special requirements placed on fire doors with hold-open systems in this historic architecture. Due to the great room heights and the distances of far in excess of one metre between the lintel and the ceiling, additional ceiling smoke detectors were required on both sides of the door. Additional cable runs in the ceiling are unavoidable. The building operators, door manufacturers and planners faced the challenge of leaving the historic ceilings – some of which had beams – untouched.

Even in the earliest stages of the project, we got parties from all subsections involved. This made sure that no requirements or issues were forgotten, no inspiring idea was ignored, and processes could go hand-in-hand in an efficient network. In the case of this listed building with its specific circumstances, we worked together with door experts from Dömer Metallbau GmbH in Nordwalde to implement

  • manual and automatic fire protection doors, and
  • a wireless extension of the hold-open system with wireless detectors in a complete system

Easy installation

The additional smoke detectors could be simply attached to the ceiling by GEZE Service. All components of the FA GC 170 wireless extension were easily connected to the existing system via a wireless module. FA GC 170 is therefore also a retrofitting solution. Ceiling smoke detectors and manual trigger switches of other hold-open systems in the building can also be wirelessly connected to the wireless module on the lintel-mounted detectors.

EuroCIS: LANCOM Systems zeigt agile Filialvernetzung für Handelsunternehmen

Der diesjährige EuroCIS-Auftritt von Netzwerkinfrastrukturausstatter LANCOM Systems steht ganz im Zeichen von „SD-Branch“. Am Stand A10 in Halle 10 dreht sich alles um die agile, ganzheitliche Vernetzung von Filialstrukturen und Ladengeschäften sowie die hochautomatisierte Steuerung der Netzwerkinfrastruktur. Top-Exponat ist die LANCOM Management Cloud. Als intelligente Schaltzentrale stellt sie das gesamte Netzwerk bestehend aus WAN, LAN, WLAN und Cloud-basierten Firewalls per Software-defined Networking (SDN) bereit. Neben neuen Access Points, Supervectoring-fähigen Routern und einer Firewall-Familie stellt LANCOM flexible „Retail-IoT“-Lösungen zur digitalen Preisauszeichnung vor.

Klassische Netzwerktechnologien werden zunehmend durch SDN („Software-defined Networking“) ersetzt. Netzwerke werden damit genauso flexibel und dynamisch wie die restliche virtuelle Infrastruktur. Auch für den stationären Handel ist SDN eine Möglichkeit, auf den steigenden Wettbewerbsdruck zu reagieren: Filialbetriebe können neue digitale Dienste wesentlich schneller, flexibler und kostengünstiger anbieten und ihre Filialnetze ad-hoc verändern und um neue Standorte ausbauen.

Mit „SD-Branch“ greift LANCOM die spezifischen Anforderungen im stationären Handel auf und bietet eine integrierte Lösung, die mit SD-WAN, SD-LAN, SD-WLAN und SD-Security alle Infrastrukturthemen in einer Plattform vereint: vom lokalen Netz (LAN, WLAN) über die Weitverkehrsnetze (WAN) bis hin zum Schutz durch Cloud-basierte Firewalls.

Retail-IoT – mit ESLs zum Internet of Things im Handel

Ein weiterer Messeschwerpunkt bei LANCOM sind maßgeschneiderte IoT-Lösungen für Filialisten. Wireless ePaper sorgen als hochmoderne Digital-Signage-Lösung für die Optimierung von Prozessen, etwa bei der elektronischen Preisauszeichnung in Supermärkten. Vielerorts setzen Einzelhändler bereits auf die Vorteile digitaler Preisschilder, sogenannter Electronic Shelf Labels bzw. ESLs.

Neu: Access Points und Supervectoring-fähige Router

Um die neue Supervectoring–Technik nutzen zu können, wird der passende Router am jeweiligen Anschluss benötigt. Die LANCOM 1790er-Serie erfüllt diese Voraussetzung und nutzt ein Maximum der zusätzlichen Bandbreite.

Mit einer modernen Funkinfrastruktur bleibt der Einzelhandel für Zukunfts­trends gerüstet. Der neue Access Point LN-830U bietet neben schnellem 11ac-WLAN (Wi-Fi 5) auch IoT-Readiness. Über den integrierten USB-Port können so unterstützte IoT-Funk-Module in die vorhandene WLAN-Infrastruktur eingebunden werden.

Neu: Firewalls für die sichere Filialvernetzung

Michael Müller appointed Vice President, Wi-Fi and Switches at LANCOM Systems

The German network infrastructure supplier LANCOM Systems has appointed Michael Müller as Vice President, Wi-Fi and Switches. The 47-year-old is responsible for the product lines in the area of wireless and wired networks: Wi-Fi access points, WLAN controllers, hotspot solutions, and LAN switches. He comes from network specialist D-Link, where he headed the product management for Central Europe.

With an MBA and more than 20 years of experience in product management in the IT industry, he has held a number of leadership positions. Most recently, he was at D-Link as Head of Product Management for Central Europe. Previous positions were at Dell and Hewlett Packard/Compaq.

In his new role, Michael Müller takes over the responsibility for the product and market strategy of the LANCOM Wi-Fi and Switch product lines and will oversee the maintenance, development and lifecycle management of the LAN and Wi-Fi portfolios. He reports to Christian Schallenberg, CTO and member of the extended Management Board at LANCOM.

“With Michael Müller, we are gaining a proven network expert and experienced manager for the further development of our LAN and Wi-Fi portfolio,” says Christian Schallenberg. “We look forward to working with him on key future topics such as Wi-Fi 6 and further expanding our product lines toward enterprise solutions.”

He succeeds Jan Buis, who has been responsible for the Wi-Fi and Switch portfolio for the last year and a half. As Vice President of Business Development, Jan Buis will focus on further expanding the global LANCOM business within the Rohde & Schwarz corporate group, advising international analysts and providing strategic leadership to OEM customers.

Michael Müller enjoys spending his spare time cycling and hill walking, and he enjoys drinking a good wine with his family and friends.

Zur stetigen Verbesserung der Wireless-basierten Kommunikation verfügt der nutzerfreundliche Box-PC über einen vollständigen PCI-Express-Mini-Card-Slot, einen SIM-Karten-Slot und zwei SMA-Type Antennen-Anschlüsse. Eine hohe I/O-Konnektivität wird durch vier RS-232 Ports, Dual Gigabit Ethernet Ports, fünf USB 2.0 Ports, einem VGA, HDMI und Audio-Anschluss (Mic-In/Line-Out) sowie einem im System liegenden USB 3.0 Port gewährleistet. Der Intel® AtomTM-basierte Embebbed-PC ist mit einem 2.5" SATA HDD Laufwerksschacht mit einer Höhe von 15mm und einer mSATA für hohe Speicherkapazitäten ausgestattet. Industrial POE E-marking Switches for vehicle applications

The E-marking certificate makes the series the most suitable switches for bus, carriage, other vehicles application as well as for industrial areas where the power source is limited with 12V or 24V but has demand of IP surveillance or VoIP applications.

Galvanic isolation for dual 48V, 12V input with max PoE budget
The switch supports IEEE802.3at/af standard which can feed HI-power up to 30W at each PoE port for big power consumption devices like PTZ IP camera, high power wireless AP etc.

It accepts power input 9~56VDC with IEEE802.3at/af standard up to 30W per PoE port with maximum 120W@24V and 80W@12V output (at dual input). The 12V model is also compliant with ISO 7637-2 Pulse 5a which protects switch from being damaged by high voltage that could be found at vehicle cranky start.

48V model accept 45~56VDC power input and can feed 48V output for PoE feeding in vehicle at max 240W @48V input.

E-marking certificate, High reliability and extended working temperature
This switch provides ±2000V EFT and ±6000V ESD protection, which can reduce unstable situation caused by power line and Ethernet. It has high reliability and robustness coping with extensive EMI/RFI phenomenon, environmental vibration and shocks usually found in Automation, transportation, surveillance, Wireless backhaul, Semi-conductor factory and assembly lines.

The -E model can be used in extreme environments with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 75°C.
